Review #13 - Smooth Ambler Old Scout 11 year SiB 49.7% #3064
Special thanks to t8ke for providing this sample! I decided to drink this after a weekend of prowling liquor stores trying to find a bottle of the Elijah Craig Barrel Proof that I sampled from him on Saturday and, of course, failing. I'll keep an eye out. Still, the desire led me to another bourbon.
Nose: Caramel, toffee, sweet cornbread.
Palate: Strong corn to start, more toffee, red cherries, then strong baking spices as the sweet fades. Clove, cinnamon, allspice.
Finish: Medium. Vanilla and toffee, smooth and mouth coating.
Verdict: This is very good. I wish it had a bit more punch up front, but the finish comes through and really elevates the whole thing. I'm enjoying this a lot, after a pretty crap Monday. As usual, whiskey can make the whole day better.
Would I buy this: Yes, if under/around 50 bucks a bottle.
Would I order this in a bar: Yes.
Would I drink this if someone gave me a glass: Most definitely.
Rating: ★★★★
